All together now!

Veni, vidi, picti and ... misi.

(I came, I saw, I pictured and ... posted)

How many words could we spend of the modern way of living and sharing our lives?

Veni, Vidi, Picti

Eventually we managed to find the time (and the courage) to arrange a short trip to Venice. We waited for the school winter break for the Austrian national skiing week and headed south to Italy under a heavy snowfall, wishing to find a better weather. Unfortunately we realized too late that we had chosen one of the coldest, windiest and most rainy days of the year. Taking pictures in such conditions is not easy at all: especially when you have to keep a tight schedule and run quickly from one corner of the town to another, dribbling hosts of tourists, jumping pools, fighting with the umbrellas and taking care of the family demands.

After long travelling, Venice has been the first place that made me feel like a cheap tours modern globe trotter: veni, vidi, picti. In the end, I have thrown in the wastebasket more than half of the pictures I took. These are some survival postcards.

The Rythm of the Sea

"... dai diamanti non nasce niente,
dal letame nascono i fior ..."

Waiting for the nice days of Spring to come back, in the evening, when possible, I revisit the folders of my past photographs. The wish is always to find something that I had completely forgotten, left there for better times. After all, shooting is a matter of moments, while processing the image and making it presentable can be a matter of an entire life. This time I almost by chance I fell into a folder of three years ago. I have left the pictures as they were taken, only removing a bit of color which I found excessive. An interesting series of findings on the sand of Vieste.

Something moves

It is not true that the Winter season is pure idle time, that everything sleeps and nothing happens. Life simply goes on at a different pace and slowly prepares itself for better times. Only men pretend to ignore this rule and hardly keep the same marching plans. We should learn, back again, to observe and imitate Nature, behaving in the same manner: there are times for sprinting and harvesting and times for resting and getting ready for the next sprint.

Flat Lands

The characteristics of the places, where I do that little physical training that I manage to do today, are very different from those of the Po Valley, where I used to go running during my free time, when I was living in Saronno. Now my gaze can not go far, unless I climb the top of a hill. On the other hand, I am surrounded by the green of the ubiquitous woods and by an almost untouched nature.

By watching again these images, I still remember with pleasure the attraction that the vastness of the plain can sometimes exert on the soul. Thinking over, it's like being in front of the sea, a sea whose color changes with every season: low tide in winter, high waves of wheat in summer. I have only one regret: the places I captured with my cell phone during my outings in 2015 have recently been devastated, to make room for new and useless roads and highways. I will not be able to see them as I have known them. On the other hand, the idea of not being able to see the havoc made by the bulldozers ... comforts me.

Waiting for news

I'm not waiting mail from Croatia, where I took this picture. I know that sooner or later I'll get (not so good) news from Italy and this doesn't make me sleep well.

Stay There

It's so disappointing feeling left alone by the "institutions" of your country when you are abroad. Even the simplest thing that would help you feeling less "away" are forbidden. Still, in short they will be knocking at our doors asking for our votes.

GT17-18: Certosa di Trisulti

On the same day we passed though Vico nel Lazio, we drove along the steep forestall road that leads to the Carthusian abbey in Trisulti.

GT17-18: Vico Nel Lazio

On the first day of the year, after I don't remember anymore how long since my last visit, I managed to make a quick stop, no more than twenty minutes, to the mountain village where I was practically born and spent so much time during my youth.
